Polar Bear Plunge

What can i say here? this morning i woke up 1 and a half  hours before my alarm was to go off- thinking  “what ‘d i get myself into?”  and then  ” oh well its here…”  so i drank a press ate a small bowl of applejacks then suited up in to Captain Redbeard.  Sarahs up and real happy- not so much about me jumping into freezing waters, but happy theres EMTs there on standby with an ambulance running. im so excited that pulling out of our driveway i jerk the wheel too soon and get it stuck in the 2ft snowbank edging our curb. all this snow and still i haven’t purchased a shovel, so rather than spend who knows how long rocking the car- Sarahs yelling ” go get the rake!”   So in looking back, i smile. and laugh!   life presents another unexpected picture of oneself , that you could of never really thought up: Saturday morning, your driving down an indiana road and spot a bare-chest pirate in knee-high snow raking it out from beneath a station wagon!  anyway, we made it to the lake. and we were so thankful for all of our friends that came out for support, Thank you ALL! the event began by us all reciting the special olympis motto, then they had a guy with an Olympic torch lead us all -plungers – to the hole. So he passed off the torch to someone down at the hole, and HE JUMPED!  then another , and another – before long it was me… so i charged and jumped-with my pirate sword held high in the air & as i leaped, my paper pirate hat from LJS fell over my eyes, and a blind decent into freezing wet needles &  pins. but honestly that part wasn’t all that bad compared to getting out of the water. my boots laces were covered in ice immediately – later sarah said my beard was too. Definitely though for me, the  most discomforting part is from your digits- your toes and fingers.  it took me so long to untie my double-knotted boots, and even putting on wool sock was quite a battle. i came out of the men’s room damp, however in dry clothes and around the corner was  many more familiar faces,  Liz and Allison made  it too. they watched the highlights on our video camera. The after-party was down the street where there was chili, nachos, karaoke, and awards.   I was involved in all of them. well, not the karaoke. but as far as costumes go- between a cowboy, couple guys dressed like the blues bros.,  and  the butterfly lady, the  public liked Captain Redbeard the best! AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! and so it was that i was presented with best costume award. today was a new and fun experience for me, but it wouldn’t have been half of  grand a time that it was had it been without my wife and friends there with me. Thank You LORD  for all the amazing, creative, and meaningful ways You share love.

I still can’t believe we are really going, Im constantly looking at the travel book she got me,  checking out places andfun things to do there. I guess im finally writing this JOYOUS news cause on this freezing cold day shes cooking shepherds pie, and that makes me happy.  happy like a round-trip ticket.

These pics are a week old. and yes it was cold, but compared to the snow we got overnight…its nothing!  We got 10 INCHES OF SNOW!!! and right now my station wagon is half in the drive, half in the street- and thats ok, snow plows don’t go down side streets here. I’m  thankful for ben lending me his snow shovel, it helped me and 3 of my neighbors.  Kona loves the snow too, her beard collects  ice sickles 10 times quicker than mine.

Coffee Saturday

5 of us drove 230 miles for coffee…because. That’s why. We started with a morning craffe in the car for a little eye opener on our way to West Lafayette to GreyHouse Coffee.  Purdue is large. Then we headed to Chicago to enjoy what Intelligentsia had to offer, and finally ended it at The Coffee Studio. French press, Chemex, Clover, CafeSolo’, espressos!!! We didn’t even use gasoline, we just pushed the car everywhere we went. Good trip.

thanks GreyHouse.

RN in the house

I am so excited for Sarah, i got the text this morning  at 9am- actually 8:03 her time. She flew back a few days ago to take her nclex test. This morning though, as many of us could’ve guessed SHE PASSED! My wife is just beginning her brand new world of healing the sick, of course what she really desires is delivering babies, helping pregnant mothers, etc… I just love Jesus so much for blessing me with such an amazing woman, He is so great to me and i know there are just huge things in store for Sarah! Thank you God for hearing our prayers and the prayers of many who lifted her up during the studying and testing. God is good all the time. And all the time God is good.

New Places

So last weekend Sarah & i were returning from our friends wedding in Maryland, however one grand thing i did’nt share was the stop to refuel in MY town- GRANTSVILLE! It was quite the little town,  complete with all the things little towns should have. We filled up the car in the one of maybe 3 gas stations-complimented with a fun exchange of grumpiness between a local and the new gas station attendant, Oh Darryl…

We took a quick drive down the strip and saw the corner clock, the little library, and post office. We actually left and then on the ramp back to the highway turned around to checkout the antique gift shop for a Grantsville sign- but didn’t find one. Walked away though with a great flyer & map of the town. I do hope to return.

Another new place for me is behind the counter making coffee drinks for the public at MAC. Last night they had they’re friday night cafe’, were anyone is welcome to come and have a free drink (donations welcome), here some live music, even throw some pottery on the wheel. People were visiting and playing cards-it was great! It was my first time making drinks for anyone, other than those at my house-and the machines their at the church are a litte bit nicer than mine. OK- alot nicer, I even made some lady a $10 latte! We were laughing about how from here on out I can forever tag to myself that “I make $10 lattes!” It was a wonderful expirience, and i’m real excited to learn alot more. And I’m so thankful to all the other interns who patiently schooled me on… everything, thank you ALL.

Wallace Wedding

Sarah and I left our new home in Indiana and drove to Maryland for our friends wedding. 9 hours later we arrived and  got a chance to hang out with some friends and meet some new friends. Since we arrived a little before needed for any sorta rehearsal us a

nd the Levines went to D.C. and checked out the Smithsonian and other sites.  The wedding was wonderful, just wonderful. What a great idea to have a wedding in a movie theater…well, at one time it was. I saw people from Colorado i had not seen in years and they were all to happy to hear about Sarah & my plans for vacationing out there this winter (cross your fingers).  Sarah & i danced crazy at the after party, ate some great food and got to catch up with dear friends at one of the most important days of their lives. God bless you Wallaces, we pray many happy years together.

AND I DID A POOR JOB ARRANGING THESE PICTURES. SORRY.

Indiana, here i come

what a poker face...

Are you ready for this?

So the time finally had come for me (and Kona) to move out more east-Indiana. And in the middle of all these exciting Olympics, i sure hope to survive without them. But really, the dog and i set off Wednesday morning from KC- but not before getting some farewell pics at the in-laws house. My nerves were surprisingly cool before jumping in and driving tons of our stuff in the biggest horse i was ever forced to tame and drive 550 miles. Oh and during this trip i realized that i will never be a truck driver. God bless any truck driver on the road ever! Diesel fuel costs balls$$$! Liquid gold! My truck was ONLY 26 ft. not your 53′ trailer, so- i know when to say when. Even though during the drive i joked with Sarah that i could really get use to this, no thanks.  We stopped a few times trying not to let the fuel gauge drop too far below 1/2 tank (pretty weak that most stations cut you off at $75). We ate like kings though with our pre-packed brown bag lunch (thanks honey) and some nice treats only picked up at the  Flying J travel plaza. So a pretty sweet trip overall in all of its 11 hours. (Sorry Dahlia for not stopping, the coffee kept us going safe though).

We drew straws on who drove the first leg.

WE were not able really see any of the outside hose when we arrived. Thankfully Vince was there with some door keys, but more important- directions on guiding me in to a dark driveway at night in a new town, AND he helped bring in queen mattress! So a little nap in the front room then – the pastor on a bike showed up followed by a number of other interns and members of MAC to help bring in our stuff. Thank you to each and everyone of you guys! The house is just wonderful and in a great place-geographically for someone on a bicycle to get around. I look forward to these next days before the internship begins in traveling around on two wheels, getting familiar with it all. God bless you all, and to my family and friends-i love you and look forward to the  very next time we see one another. Now enjoy some sights of the Yeamans’  new home.

Nurses are on military time-

Sarah and her dad

Sarah and her dad (photo not present time)

So today was huge! Sarah took her boards today to see if she will begin her nursing career sooner than later! I’m positive she did her best, and aced it. The strange thing that i found out was that shes graduating nursing school regardless of how todays test turns out. Not all the nurses take the NCLEX as soon as she did, but will later. Shes just jumping on it now on account of Muncie AND her trip down to Paraguay to see her best friend for 3WEEKS. Oh, and its (her flight) the same day as graduation did i mention that…hours later. I’m so proud of her! This first year has been kinda stressful at times, but with school out of the way I’m sure our lives will be perfect…just kidding.
